[Artist Note]

The primary subject of my work are discarded items such as machines, scrap metal, and parts. Marrying these with plant images, I represent unlimited production and consumption in capitalist society, and contemporary obsessive desire and greed for possession. What I try to express, beyond a mere representation of images of discarded things, is an inner interpretation of clashes between two images. The heterogeneous derive from diverse relations in contemporary society : clashes and combinations of various phenomena is a process of perceiving them. The subject matter, combined with heterogeneous objects, thrn to images beyond original meaning. In rapidly changing industrial society, machines, metal, and parts arein cycles of exthnction and reproduction when discarded after completing their roles. As individual experience and response feel different, urban scenes, vague buildings, discarded and disappearing things, combined with the heterogeneous are perceived differently, and shape new meaning. My monotone work, using conte on paper, shows a combination of traces generated by repetitious drawing and deleting. These traces shape a plant image on paper. This heterogeneous image is an amalgam of waste items and plants, and an outgrowth engendered between the conscious and unconscious. I tepresent new understanding of the heterogeneous through arrangements of elements, and metaphorical manner. Through my interpretation, I represent the relationship between producation and consumption, things and meaning, offering a momentum for communication.
