Younghwan PARK

Younghwan PARK sculpts the linear flow of 'time' into the form of a sphere, where the perspective changes according to the brightness of the sphere, altering the clarity of personal experiences and memories. Faint, misty spheres outside the window represent blurred memories, fading recollections, and evaporating emotions from past experiences, while accumulating or falling snow covers this landscape. Through the symbolic forms of 'window' and 'sphere,' he reveals abstract and conceptual concepts such as 'time' of the past and present, personal 'experiences,' 'memories,' and 'emotions.' He delineates the linear time and acquired experiences, memories, by constantly contemplating the direction to pursue through continuous objectification. 

 

 

박영환 작가는 선형적으로 흘러가는 ‘시간’을 구체(球體)의 형태로 조형하는데, 구체의 명도에 따라 시점(時點)이 변화되며, 그에 따라 개인의 경험과 기억의 선명도가 달라진다. 작가의 작품 속에서 관람자는 창 내부에서 외부를 바라보는 시점(視點)을 취하고 있는데, 창밖 풍경 속에 자리한 희뿌연 구체들은 지나온 삶의 궤적으로 흐릿해진 추억과 잊혀가는 기억, 휘발된 감정과 같은 것들이며, 쌓이거나 내리고 있는 눈은 이러한 풍경을 덮어간다. 과거와 현재라는 ‘시간’과 개인적 ‘경험’, ‘기억’, ‘감정’과 같은 비물질적이고 관념적인 개념을 ‘창’과 ‘구’라는 상징적인 형태를 통해 드러내고 있는 작가는 선형적인 시간과 체득된 경험, 기억을 경계로 분절하며 끊임없는 객관화를 통해 나아가야 할 방향을 고민한다.
