Munhee HUR

Jeju native artist Munhee HUR focuses on the "Forest of the Island" where she was born and raised. Through the accumulated time and space in the forest, she confronts the unseen beyond reality, hidden within the continuously repeating time of the forest lies a vitality. She conceals all living beings who cannot enjoy safety in reality within a safe and peaceful space beyond reality in her paintings, where an enduring vitality exists. Within this space, she restores the original time of the forest and rediscovers primitive sensibilities through the vitality of the forest.

 

  

제주 토박이인 허문희 작가는 그녀가 나고 자란 ‘섬의 숲’에 주목한다. 작가는 누적된 시공간이 쌓여 있는 숲을 통해 현실과 현실 너머의 것들을 차단하면서 보이지 않는 것과 마주한다. 그것은 끊임없이 반복되는 숲의 시간 속에 숨겨진 생명력이다. 그림에서 재현되는 숲은 섬의 숲에서 보았던 식물과 풍경을 단초로 재구성된 시간 밖의 세계이다. 현실에서 안전함을 누리지 못하는 모든 생명체들을 좀 더 안전하고 평온한 그림 속 현실 너머의 사라지지 않는 생명력 있는 공간에 숨겨 놓는다. 그 안에서 본래의 숲의 시간을 회복하고, 숲의 생명력을 통해 원시적 감수성을 되찾는다. ‘아무도 숲을 보지 않는 시대’에 살고 있는 지금, 허문희 작가는 섬의 숲이 끊임없이 보여주는 생명력의 가치를 붓으로 담아낸다.
