Yujin SUNG

Yujin SUNG captures her inner thoughts and emotions through the act of repetitive line drawing. The cat-human figures depicted in her paintings embody a wide range of emotions and images stored in the artist's eyes. She began expressing her inner narratives of anxiety, which she had concealed from others, by observing the cat she raised during a period of seclusion. This led her to convey her personal moments into universally relatable images. While people experience different moments in various times, the artist believes in the existence of something that we can universally feel and share together. She views the pursuit of this "commonality" as a process of understanding the world, connecting with others, and realizing her own place within it. Through her artwork, she embarks on this journey of discovery and communication.

 

 

성유진 작가는 반복적인 선 긋기라는 행위를 통해 작가 내면의 생각과 감정을 기록한다. 작가의 그림에 등장하는 고양이인간은 온갖 종류의 감정과 작가의 눈에 저장된 이미지를 내포한다. 작가는 스스로 사회와 고립되어 은둔 생활을 하던 중 키우게 된 고양이를 바라보며 타인에게 드러내지 않았던 불안이라는 내면의 이야기를 꺼내어 그림으로 표현하기 시작했다. 작가는 개인적인 순간들을 모든 사람이 공감할 수 있는 이미지로 전달하고자 한다. 사람들은 각자 다른 시간 속에서 서로 다른 경험을 하지만, 보편적으로 느낄 수 있고 공유할 수 있는 무언가가 있을 것이라고 생각하는 작가는 그 '공통성'을 찾아가는 것이 세상을 이해하고 사람들과 소통하며 스스로가 그 일부임을 알아가는 과정이 될 것이라 말하며 작업을 통해 그 과정을 수행한다.
