Kyusun CHA

Kyusun CHA started “Buncheong Painting” as an advanced experiment trying the similar production method to that of Buncheong porcelain. By mixing the porcelain clay used to produce Buncheong porcelain with fastening pigment, he spreads it on the canvas surface and applies the entire part with white acrylic paints. Before the paints, he completes the work by drawing or scractching figures of scenery using wooden spatula or branches. He depicts scenery that is sometimes real and sometimes unreal during this stage. The scenery appeared in his work remain not as an object but as a place of thinking. For Kyusun CHA, the form of Buncheong painting made it possible to approach thinking about new scenery, gaze and subject.

 

 

차규선작가는 분청사기 제작기법과 유사하게 ‘분청회화’를 시작했다. 분청사기 제작에 쓰이는 도자기 흙을 고착안료와 섞어 캔버스 표면에 바르고 백색의 아크릴 물감으로 전면을 칠한 후 이 물감이 굳기 전에 나무주걱이나 나뭇가지 등으로 풍경을 그리거나 긁어내서 완성한다. 분청회화의 형식은 작가에게 새로운 풍경, 시선, 주체에 대한 사고를 가능케 했다. 이 시기에는 실제로 존재하기도, 그렇지 않기도 한 풍경을 그려낸다. 그의 작업에 등장하는 풍경은 이미 대상으로서가 아니라 사유의 영역에 자리하게 된다. 어디서 본듯한 경관이지만 분명 다르다. 보는 이로 하여금 스스로의 서사를 만들어주는 것, 차규선의 분청회화가 가진 힘이다.
