Taewoo

Artist Taewoo, who majored in oriental painting, draws modern reinterpreted landscape paintings based on the "Wa Yu." The idea of "Jongbyeong," the first landscape painter and theorist of the North-South Dynasty of China, means "lying down and sightseeing." When Jongbyeong, who liked to go on a cruise around mountain, became old and unable to go on a cruise in person, he put the appearance of mountain on a canvas, hung it, lay down, and enjoyed it. The artist interprets the spiritual release of "Wayu" as pleasure and completes modern landscape painting with the artist's unique pleasantness. "Sansu(landscape)", the object of "Wayu," is not limited to nature, but means all environments surrounding the artist living in life.

 

 

동양화를 전공한 태우 작가는 '와유사상'을 바탕으로 현대적으로 재해석된 풍경화를 그린다. '와유사상'이란 '누워서 유람하다'는 뜻으로 중국 남북조시대 최초 산수화가이자 이론가인 '종병'의 사상이다. 명산을 다니며 유람하는 것을 좋아하던 '종병'이 이후 노쇠하게되어 직접 유람을 할 수 없게 되자, 명산의 모습을 화폭에 담아 그것을 걸어두고 누워서 바라보며 즐겼다. 작가는 '와유사상' 속의 정신적 해방을 즐거움이라 해석하여 작가 특유의 유쾌함으로 현대적 풍경화를 완성한다. '와유'의 대상인 산수는 자연에만 국한되지 않고 현대를 살아가는 작가를 둘러싼 모든 환경을 의미한다.
